Endangered

The northern red salamander is one of Indiana's most beautiful out of the twenty two species found here. Sadly, this species is also often over collected by collectors because it is a delicacy in the reptile and amphibian trade. They are currently listed as endangered in the state, most likely due to habitat pollution and loss, and new findings are pointing to climate changes in the ozone, brought on by constant air pollution.
